Customize Default Settings
From Bill Goffe:
Here are some changes in the default settings that I’ve found useful in my classes of 300-plus students:
Settings > Course Details > more options
“Hide grade distribution graphs from students.” Sometimes an instructor might not want the class to know the average grade for an exam or quiz.
“Disable comments on announcements.” In my experience, most student comments on announcements are best handled in an individual communication. Keep in mind that announcement comments go to all students, so in a large class, hundreds will be receiving a message that is of little use to them.
Account > Notifications
“Submission Comment.” The instructor can find out when students leave a comment on a submission. It is very time-consuming to otherwise find these comments.
You also might wish to check other notifications that by default are turned off, e.g. “Late Grading.”
